Dr Macumba is the first song in Earl Klugh’s Finger Paintings (1977) album. The base at the beginning seems daunting because I don’t play bass but I did a little practice for this solo. You will notice that the chords are mostly Brazilian which shows the strong influence of this genre in Earl Klugh’s early pieces. I did attempt to play this during my early years but can not complete the first cycle; and with a loud accompaniment, I couldn’t track the notes on the vinyl or on tape recordings. To those curious, I play my pieces mostly be ear and I am likewise greatly influenced by bossa nova which is very famous in the 60s and 70s. This is the first recording of my new electro-classical guitar made by Cort (customised). It sounds better than my Taylor classical and the size just fits my physique. It’s my new companion guitar!
